FREE TOURS OF THE BRIDGE AT WEEKENDS
PLEASE NOTE: NO FREE TOURS THIS WEEKEND (SAT 11th or SUN 12th AUGUST 2012 ) during the Balloon Fiesta.
Easter weekend sees the anniversary of the birth of Isambard Kingdom Brunel on 9th April1806. It is also the beginning of the 2012 programme of free guided tours of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Mike Rowland, Manager for Visitor Services at the Bridge said today “Interest in the Bridge and Brunel remains as high as ever and the tours are always popular”.
The tours, provided by specially trained volunteer guides, cover the history, construction and maintenance of the Bridge, and give people an opportunity to find out about the challenges facing the historic structure in the 21st century, and what is happening at the Bridge now, from someone with ‘inside knowledge’.
The guided tours start at 3.00pm every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from Saturday 7th April through until the end of October. Meet your guide next to the toll booth at the Clifton end of the Bridge. The tours are suitable for all ages and everyone is welcome. There is no need to book; just turn up ! (but please note different arrangements apply for large organised groups).
The tours are free of charge, but donations ‘in the hat’ on the day are appreciated; all proceeds go towards the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust’s education and information service.
