We would like to inform you that for your safety we will shut down the roadway of the bridge, from 9.30 am till 4 pm meaning that no cars, motorcycles or bicycles will be able to cross the bridge. However, a pedestrian path will still be open and you will still be able to cross on foot.
Before 9.30am and after 4pm, the bridge will be open as usual.
The main reason we have to close the bridge is so our contractors can check the underneath of the tower and clean the stone safely.
While they do this, we can take advantage of the bridge closures and check the hangers, to be sure they are safe.
The week before you may have noticed there were some workers who were removing the paint from the hangers, so when the works start, they will be checking the condition of them.
Another thing we will do is do the annual inspection of the chains; this is to ensure that they have not been damaged throughout the year.
We will complete the work and repaint the hangers to make them look as good as new!
David Anderson, Bridgemaster, says: “During the bridge closures, pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge, however, cycling is prohibited. Cyclists may dismount and walk across the bridge, but, because just one path will be open, cyclists are encouraged to find another route if possible.”
The Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust wishes to apologise for the inconvenience that the closures will cause.
