A talented group of Bristolians have created a new audio drama about the works of Isambard Kingdom Brunel which will be launched at the Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre at 6.30pm on Friday 1st December.

The compelling story blends fact and fiction and real characters with those of invention. It is set in 1852 as Isambard Kingdom Brunel prepares to unveil one of his most prestigious schemes: London to New York via Bristol on One Single Ticket and follows Victorian private investigator Harry Brooke; ex- 44th British Regiment and survivor of the recent Afghan War as he attempts to reveal the identity of an adversary interfering with Brunel’s plans.

Bristol born writer Robert Wallace discovered there was a great story waiting to be told when reading archival documents and spent eighteen months working with researcher Stuart Amesbury to build the core elements of the mystery. Working with Director and Co-Producer
Paul Richards, the team recruited a cast and crew from three Bristol theatre groups; Kelvin Players, St. Alban’s Players and Clifton Amateur Dramatics Society. Music Technology students from the University of the West of England captured these performances and created a Victorian soundscape under the tuition of Martyn Harries, Senior Lecturer, Audio and Music Technology.

The fast-moving adventure will be available on CD and as a digital download from www.brunelsvision.co.uk and shops throughout the city. Advance copies will be available from the Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre from 14th November for £15.99.

Professor R. Angus Buchanan, one of Brunel’s biographers commented: “It is actually a nice yarn, told at a breathless pace and easy to read. I enjoyed it. It is a sort of detective story, with a Richard Hannay type of hero straight out of a John Buchan thriller, and it goes with a swing.”

The launch event is open to the general public see www.cliftonbridge.org.uk/event/brunels-vision-one-single-ticket-launch-event for further details.
